Position description
The Seldin lab at UC Irvine is jointly recruiting a postdoctoral
fellow in collaboration with the Diabetes division at Novo Nordisk
in Copenhagen, Denmark. The nature of this collaboration involves a
dynamic and innovative research group dedicated to unraveling the
molecular underpinnings of metabolic diseases. We operate at the
intersection of biochemistry, molecular biology, and translational
medicine, striving to identify novel therapeutic targets for the
treatment of metabolic disorders. By employing cutting-edge
technologies and multidisciplinary approaches, we aim to make
significant contributions to the field of metabolic research.
Specifically, the individual will work to characterize the roles of
new endocrine proteins which are computationally predicted to act
on pathways relevant for metabolic disease. The individual hired
under this mechanism will primarily be based out of Irvine, but
should be able to travel routinely to Copenhagen to facilitate
active collaboration. The successful candidate will have the
opportunity to work in a collaborative and stimulating environment,
contributing to groundbreaking discoveries with the potential to
translate into clinical applications.
Key Responsibilities:
-Design and execute experiments to screen soluble proteins in
cellular and animal models of metabolic diseases.
-Employ state-of-the-art biochemical and molecular biology
techniques to analyze protein function and regulation.
-Characterize identified proteins using a variety of assays,
including but not limited to, protein-protein interaction studies,
enzymatic assays, and functional assays in cellular and animal
models.
-Collaborate with team members to understand computational
approaches detailing identification of organ signaling mechanisms
and related outcomes
-Collaborate with team members to integrate findings into broader
research projects and contribute to the development of therapeutic
strategies.
-Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures, results, and
analyses.
-Present research findings at internal meetings, conferences, and
scientific seminars.
Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in
peer-reviewed journals.
-Willingness to travel between Irvine and Copenhagen 1-2 times per
year
